Clarence Edward Meyer was born April 6, 1919, at Bassett, the son of Carl and Katherine (Moeller) Meyer. He received his education at a Chickasaw County country school. Clarence proudly served in the United States Army, 4th Major Port during World War II and was one of six local World War II veterans who, on June 6, 1997, received the Normandy Invasion Liberty Metal.

On January 16, 1960, he was united in marriage to Margaret Hartmann at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Clarence worked 13 years in the plumbing business with his brother, Willis “Bill”.

He later worked 24 years for the Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company retiring in 1980.

Clarence was baptized and confirmed at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. He attended the Bethany Alliance Church and was a member of the American Legion. His interests included gardening and fishing. Both Clarence and Margaret looked forward to attending the 4th Major Port Reunion which was held annually. Clarence’s family was very important to him and he always enjoyed spending time with them.

Living family members include his wife, Margaret of Charles City; three children, Karen Meyer of Plainfield, Don Meyer of Sac City and Laura (Rodney) Brusse of Millville, Minnesota; two adopted children, Brian (Lea) Meyer of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Gail Meyer of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Brandie (James) O’Dowd of Greene, Danielle McDonald of Ionia, and Zachary and Ashley Brusse of Millville, Minnesota; two great grandsons, Carter O’Dowd and Ethan McDonald; one brother, Alvin Meyer of Des Moines; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers: Ben, Walter, Willis and Carl Meyer.
