Gladys Novak, 67, a resident of 907 E Street, Charles City, died Sunday, October 31, 2004, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral Mass for Gladys Novak will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

Gladys Josephine Zobeck Novak was born July 17, 1937, in Howard County, the daughter of Wesley and Margaret (Polansky) Zobeck.

She received her education in Howard County. On October 15, 1956, she was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Novak at Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. Gladys worked for 18 years at the Comet Bowl and for over 10 years at Comprehensive Systems. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Saint Rose Circle.

Her hobbies included playing Aggravation and cards, doing circle word puzzles, baking, bowling and fishing. Gladys always looked forward to spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Living family members include her husband, Anthony “Tony” Novak of Charles City; seven children, Wesley (Ellen) Novak of Conrad, Donald (Shelia) Novak of Spirit Lake, Kenneth “Jo Jo” Novak of Nora Springs, Garry Novak of Charles City, Danny (Lori) Novak of Charles City, Kevin Novak of Independence, and Terri Novak of Charles City; 18 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Zobeck of Evansdale; and a sister, Evelyn (Thomas) Murray of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
