Floyd Meerdink, age 94, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Sunday, November 28, 2004, at his home.

Floyd Adam Meerdink was born July 4, 1910, at Lake Andes, South Dakota, the son of Jake and Catherine (Beck) Meerdink. He graduated from the Nashua High School in 1929.

On June 4, 1935, he was united in marriage to Gladys Smith at Powersville. Gladys died on March 22, 1970. Floyd then married Helen Hazelwood Boofer on December 26, 1970. They later divorced.

Floyd farmed south of Charles City all of his life, moving into Charles City in the mid 1980’s. He was a member of Bethany Alliance Church, serving on the church board and as treasurer. Floyd also served as president on the school board for the Riverton No. 10 country school.

Living family members include four children, Earl (Barbara) Meerdink of Charlotte, Vermont, Janet Meerdink of Charles City, Paul (Marian) Meerdink of Charles City, and Carol Ann (Garry) Brown of Charles City; 10 grandchildren, Christine Kennedy, Amy Weaver, Joel Meerdink, Elizabeth Meerdink, Tammela (Terry) Frascht, Troy Meerdink, Gina (Scott) Phearman, Angela (Craig) Sinnwell, Kelly (John) Powell, and Shawna (Kevin) Davis; and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and a brother, Harold Meerdink.
