Lloyd W. Severin Sr., 85, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Friday, September 28, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family.

Pastor Jason Boyd of the Faith Bible Chapel will officiate. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Lloyd Wesley Severin Sr. was born November 10, 1921 at Cherokee, the son of Albin and Pearl May (Brooks) Severin. He graduated from the West Union High School. Lloyd served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945, during this time he served in the 5th division and was at the bottom of the hill when they raised the flag on Iwo Jima.

On November 10, 1950 he was united in marriage to Opal Hall in Charles City. Lloyd was employed at White Farm in Charles City and retired after 31½ years.

He was a member of the Faith Bible Chapel in Charles City, the V.F.W. and the U.A.W. His interests included fishing, camping, bluegrass music, coaching little league baseball, watching boxing, eating blueberry pancakes and blueberry pies. Lloyd’s family was very important to him and he was the happiest when they were all together.

Living family members include his wife, Opal Severin of Charles City; four sons, Bruce (Robbin) Severin of Charles City, Lloyd Jr. (Becky) Severin of Charles City, Ike Severin of Charles City, and Mark (Tracy) Severin of Coon Rapids, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Foneal Patterson of Bloomington, Minn; and a brother, Frank Severin of Oelwein.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Opal Faulkner and Gertrude Yearous; and three brothers, Ed Severin, Jack Severin, and Virgil Severin.
