Dorothy Shahan, 80, of Charles City, died Sunday, February 11, 2007, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Dorothy Irene Jermier was born July 19, 1926, at Charles City, the daughter of George and Belle Irene (Self) Jermier. She received her education at Charles City. On February 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Melvin Shahan at Oakland, Calif. After Melvin was discharged from the service they moved to Charles City where they would spend the rest of their lives together. Dorothy worked for 17 years at the Midland Linotype School at Charles City and for 17 years at the Charles City Family Health Center. Her memberships included Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Rebecca’s. Dorothy was also serving on the board of the Senior Citizens of Charles City.

Her interests included playing bingo, gaming and listening to Kris Kristofferson. She will be remembered for her delicious potato salad and for her faithfulness in sending special occasion cards to all of her family and friends.

Living family members include her husband, Melvin Shahan of Charles City; a daughter, Theresa (Dewitt) Hansen of Waterloo; 8 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandsons; seven step grandchildren; 17 step great grandchildren; a step great great grandson; three brothers, John (Joanne) Jermier of Cedar Falls, Michael (Donna) Jermier of Urbandale, and Don (Eloise) Jermier of Stamford, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Beth Shahan of Charles City; and numerous other relative.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Tommy Shahan; and a sister, Katherine Zanger.
