Virgil Severin, 71, of Charles City, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Virgil James Severin was born September 16, 1935, in Iowa City, the son of Albin James and Pearl (Brooks) Severin. He was the youngest of eight children. Virgil graduated from the Charles City High School in 1958 with what he declared to be “the best bunch of people in the world.” He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was a disabled veteran.

On February 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carole Kay Knight at New Hampton. Virgil was well known in this area as an outgoing friendly man. He worked in numerous grocery stores and at Salsbury Laboratories, now Fort Dodge Animal Health, for 25 years. He enjoyed carving, attending high school sports, watching John Wayne movies and always looked forward to the times he could spend with his grandchildren.

Virgil was a volunteer at the Charles City Food Box. He was a man of God and spent much of his time working at the First Christian Church where he was a member, served as an elder and called on shut-ins every Sunday.

Living family members include his wife Carole of Charles City; four children and their families, Jordon (Holly) Severin, Taylor and Molly of Raymond, Richard (Mia) Severin, Zach, Noa, Nathan and Ella of Baltimore, Md., Carrie (Greg) Martin, Jacob and Benjamin of Cresco, and James (Teresa) Severin, Payton and Reegan of Charles City; two brothers, Lloyd (Opal) Severin of Charles City and Frank (Laura) Severin of Oelwein; a sister, Foneal Patterson of Minneapolis, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
