Alma Clara Meyer Hillier was born November 14, 1917, at Bassett, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Lena (Otto) Meyer. She was baptized and confirmed at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Alma graduated as Valedictorian from the Charles City High School.

On June 15, 1937, she was united in marriage to James Hillier at Albert Lea, Minnesota. During her working career Alma was a substitute teacher, salesperson at the Montgomery Ward store and a clerk in the office of the Floyd County Superintendent.

Alma was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church where she also had served as president of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and had been treasurer of the Mason City Conference Lutheran Women’s Group. She also held all offices in the Colwell Thursday Culture Club, and had served as president of the Floyd County Federation Club and Floyd County 4-H Committee. Alma’s interests included participating in church activities, reading, flower gardening, antiques, collecting various sayings and poetry and eating out with friends. She also traveled to every state in the United States.

Living family members include two daughters, Charyl (Louis) Peters of Charles City and Judy (Ron) Pierce of Independence; 8 grandchildren, Rick (Molly) Peters, Randy (Cindy) Peters, Rusty Peters, Reesa (Mark) Mitchell, Robyn (Keith) Kazianka, Rhonda (Don) McBain, Ryan (Kim) Pierce and Rod Pierce; and 10 great grandchildren, Reed Peters, Brandon Peters, BreeAnn Peters, Lucas Peters, Lynzy Peters, Sabrina Mitchell, Cassandra Mitchell, Vanessa Mitchell, Carter Pierce and Abbigail Pierce; a brother, Robert Meyer of Gilbert, Arizona; a niece, Brenda (Scott) Williams of Gilbert, Arizona; and a nephew, Terry (Becky) Meyer of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on June 26, 1994; a sister, Mildred Meyer; and two brothers, Raymond and Lawerence Meyer.
