CHARLES CITY, IOWA — William C. Schmitt, 90, of Charles City died Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2005) at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for William Schmitt will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Ervin Schmitt will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

Memorials may be directed to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

William C. Schmitt was born September 28, 1915, in Floyd County, the son of Nicholas and Mary (Sinnwell) Schmitt. He received his education from St. Mary’s Academy at Roseville.

On March 4, 1943, he was united in marriage to Oril Einck at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. They farmed all of their lives southwest of Charles City, retiring in 1981.

William was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was quite a storyteller and had a great sense of history. William and Oril enjoyed traveling the western United States, Hawaii and Europe. His greatest joy, however, was being with his family.

Living family members include his wife of 62 years, Oril Schmitt of Charles City; three children and their spouses, Carol and Edward Schmadeke and Lyle and Karen Schmitt both of Waterloo, and Marilyn and Richard Gaule of Novato, California; four grandchildren, Annette (Brad) Staples, Amy (Ron) McInroy, Sara (Dan) Hensing and Rachael Schmitt; a step-grandson, Joseph Pelton; four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Ethan Staples and Hanna and Molly Hensing; and a brother, Monsignor Ervin Schmitt of Pueblo, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Nicholas, Louis, Vincent, Stephen, Al and Victor Schmitt; and three sisters, Rose Dunn, Clara Schoenauer and Evelyn Hosch.
