Gene Anthony Hargrave of Ionia, Iowa, was born on April 30, 1954, at Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Florence (Huber) Hargrave. He died on July 7, 2004.

He graduated from the Charles City High School and attended North Iowa Area Community College.

On July 22, 1978, he married Melanie Ward at Colwell. Gene worked for 21 years at Hormel in Austin, Minnesota, and for 10 years at White Farm Equipment Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family and took every opportunity to do so. He will be remembered as a man of few words that enjoyed the simple things of life.

Living family members include his wife Melanie of Ionia; a son, Tony of Charles City; a god daughter, Alayna Koehler of Altamont, IL; and four brothers, James (Shari), Lyle (Betty), and LeRoy (Carolyn) Hargrave all of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dale (Betty) Hargrave of Fifty Lakes, Minnesota.
