Charles City, IowaBarton “Bart” Townsend, 83, of Charles City, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Barton Allen Townsend was born November 25, 1922, in rural Floyd County, the son of Harold and Gladys (Noah) Townsend. He attended Ballard School in rural Floyd County.
In October of 1941 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Bartlett. Out of this union Evenelle, Elaine, Linda and Rick were born.
In 1979 he married Sharon Sweitzer. During his working career Barton was the proprietor of Townsend Electric and self employed with many other businesses.
Barton was a volunteer fireman in Charles City for many years, a member of the FiremanÂ’s Association, life time member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, V.F.W. and Amvets. His love in life was working, flying airplanes, farming, and hunting.
Family members include four children, Evenelle Dann of Dunedin, Fla., Elaine (Curtis) Keifer of Charles City, Linda (Ralph) Smelser of Cedar Falls and Rick (Donna) Townsend of Rochester, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter; and one brother Nolan Townsend of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin and Merlyn Townsend; and a sister, Neoma Brooks.
