Grace Tommingo, age 99, of Charles City, entered into the presence of her Lord as she was surrounded by her family on Friday, November 30, 2007, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Grace Ella Tegtman Tommingo was born May 3, 1908, at Belvidere, Ill, the second of 11 children to George and Minnie (Yocum) Tegtman. She attended school in Paw Paw, Ill until the age of 10 when her family moved to a farm near Floyd where she attended the Floyd schools.

On May 4, 1927, she was united in marriage to Leo Tommingo at the Little Brown Church. They lived in Charles City, leaving it in the 1960’s to retire to De Bary, Fla. Due to Leo’s declining health they moved back to Charles City in 1990. Leo died on December 25, 1992.

Grace lived in their home on Allison Street until moving to Port Charles Assisted Living in 2005 and then to 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home this fall. Grace sold Avon and worked at the Dutch Oven Bakery for two years. She was a nurse’s aid at what was the Cedar Valley Hospital from 1956 to 1967. The last 2½ years it was known as the Floyd County Veteran’s Memorial Hospital.

She enjoyed working in all departments, especially the Obstetrics Department. Grace volunteered as a Pink Lady at FCMH until the age of 93. She was a baptized and life long member of the First Baptist Church. Grace’s interests included flower gardening, journaling and keeping an immaculate home. Her family was always important to her and she took special interest in their activities.

Living family members include two sons, Robert (Eunice) Tommingo of Charles City and Gene Tommingo of Sierra Vista, AZ; six grandchildren, Larry (Barb) Tommingo, Steve (Crystal) Tommingo, Danny (Mary Whiting) Tommingo, Diane Tommingo, Michael (Jutta) Tommingo and Shelly (Dan) Birmingham; 10 great grandchildren, Laurie (Joe) Darnell, Alyssa, Elliot, Ross, Alex, Dominic and Lindsay Tommingo, Samantha and Jennifer Birmingham and Brandy Nash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Laverne and Lloyd; six sisters, Lucille, Vera, Berdena, Lois, Doris and Marjorie; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Tommingo.
