E. LeRoy Grant, 87, of Charles City, Iowa, died Monday, September 17, 2007 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Chaplain Barb Mann of Hospice of North Iowa will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside.

Earnest LeRoy Grant was born July 16, 1920 at Thedford, Nebr., the son of James Raymond and Mary (Coen) Grant. On March 16, 1940 he was united in marriage to Wilma Swab in Allison.

He was a member of the 103rd Infantry Division during World War II and was wounded in action on January 25, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge. LeRoy was awarded a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Stars for Central Europe, and a Good Conduct Medal.

After returning home from the war, LeRoy along with his brother John and brother-in-law Bob Swab started Grant Brothers and Swab in Shell Rock. From 1950 to 1969 LeRoy and Wilma owned and operated Allied Redi-Mix in Charles City. Wilma passed away on January 14, 2004.

LeRoy served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Board of Directors Iowa Ready Mix Concrete Association and was voted Man of the Year by the Rotary Club. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. the American Legion, D.A.V., and past member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge. His interests included fishing, playing cards, and going to their winter home in Pine Island, Florida.

Living family members include his son, Gary (Mary) Grant of Sedalia, Mo., his daughter, Janice Grant (Bob Martin) of Oregon, Wis.; five grandchildren, Tammy (John) McBride of Mineral Springs, Ark., Kimberly (Mike) Hemann of Fort Worth, Tex., David (Sheila) Grant of Columbia, Mo., Lisa (David) Klade of Oregon, Wis., and Erik Martin of Madison, Wis.; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Freda Wilhite of Waterloo, and Mary Louise Long of Clarksville; two brothers, John Grant of Charles City, and Bill Grant of Fairmont, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Barbara; a great granddaughter, Jessica McBride; a sister, Sue Meader; and a brother, Paul Grant.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, to the American Cancer Association, or to Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City location.
