Carol Ransom, 84, of Charles City, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Carol June Norman Ransom was born May 10, 1922, in Franklin County, the daughter of Charles and Carrie (Laudner) Norman. She graduated from the Ionia High School in 1939.

On June 4, 1940, she was united in marriage to Willard Ransom at Ionia. Willard died in 1970. Carol married Herman Ransom on February 2, 1972, at Lyle, Minn. They lived in Rose Creek, Minn. and moved to Charles City in 1979. Herman died in 1996. Carol worked in the Chickasaw County Treasurer’s Office for several years. She was a member of the Bethany Alliance Church.

Carol was a volunteer at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, the Chickasaw County Historical Society, and for Hospice of North Iowa. Her interests included reading, traveling, cooking and making afghans and comforters. Carol’s family was always important to her and she looked forward to spending time with them.

Family members include four children, Errol “Douglas” (Gudelia) Ransom of Lynnwood, Calf., Charles Ransom of Arnold, MO, Terry (Jackie) Ransom of Clarksville, and Karen (Roger) Huisman of St. Ignace, MI; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two brothers, Louis Norman of Albia, and Dr. Lowell Norman of Corpus Christi, Tex.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and a sister, Nira Dean.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second Street S.E., Mason City, Iowa.
