Charles City, IowaDonald L. Potratz, 88, of Charles City, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
The Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the Mass at the Church on Friday.
Donald Leroy Potratz was born November 29, 1918, the son of Edwin and Martha (Katz) Potratz at Sumner. He graduated from the New Hampton High School in 1936. Donald served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945.
On January 30, 1965, he was united in marriage to Lorna Cooney in Nebraska. Don was employed at Oliver / White Farm where he retired in 1975. He was the first manager of the Legion Club in New Hampton, a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. His interests included refinishing home furniture, playing cards, and fishing in the summer.
Living family members include a step daughter, Willa (Harvey) Brasel of New Hampton; a step son, Roger (Ruth) Cooney of Maple Grove, Minn; nine grandchildren, Lora (Trace) Dungey, Kevin Tenge, Lisa (Kevin) Flick, Rochelle (Joe) Giuliani, Ronda (Matt) Stelljes, Robert Cooney, Karen (Jerry) Wilkenson, Suzanne (Bill) Tretanier, Rick Cooney; and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorna in October of 2006; a step son, Gordon Cooney; a grandson, Jimmy Cooney; a sister; and two brothers.
