Lorna C. Potratz, 92, of Charles City, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Lorna Celia Cooney Potratz was born July 26, 1914, the daughter of Adam and Celia (Freidman) Roethler at Ionia, Chickasaw county, Iowa. She received her education from the Ionia and New Hampton Community Schools.

On May 5, 1941 she was united in marriage to Leslie Cooney at New Hampton. Leslie died on July 25, 1951.

Lorna married Donald Potratz on January 30, 1965 in Nebraska.

Lorna was a homemaker until after the death of Leslie when she was employed at J.C. Penny and the United Telephone Company. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City.

Her interests included sewing, making quilts, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.

Living family members include her husband, Donald Potratz of Charles City; two children, Willa (Harvey) Brasel of New Hampton and Roger (Ruth) Cooney of Maple Grove, Minn; nine grandchildren, Lora (Trace) Dungey, Kevin Tenge, Lisa (Kevin) Flick, Rochelle (Joe) Giuliani, Ronda (Matt) Stelljes, Robert Cooney, Karen (Jerry) Wilkenson, Suzanne (Bill) Tretanier, Rick Cooney; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie Cooney; a son, Gordon Cooney; a grandson, Jimmy Cooney; and one brother Oscar Roethler.
