Odis Arlene Pals Riden was born October 22, 1913, in Butler County, the daughter of Henry and Kathryn (DeLong) Pals. She graduated from the Allison High School in 1931 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she received her teaching certificate. Odis taught rural school for a few years.

On May 5, 1935, she was united in marriage to Leslie Riden at Clarksville. They farmed for many years south of Charles City.

Leslie died on September 6, 1992. Odis was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, was actively involved in the United Methodist Women and all church activities. She was also a member of the Cedar Side Club, Rural Home Makers and had served as a 4-H Leader. Her other interests included cooking, sewing, gardening and ceramics. Odis always looked forward to spending time with her family and being a part of their lives.

Living family members include three children and their spouses, Dean (Sarah) Riden of Charles City, Marjorie (Rodney) Burnett of Ankeny and Ileen (Duane) Jerdee of Charles City; six grandchildren, Dan (Denise) Riden, Jill (Steve) O’Dea, Brad (Darcy) Burnett, Julie (Steve) Liggett, Sara (Jack) Kobe and Amy (Matt) Hotchkiss; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jones of Galesburg, IL; a brother-in-law, Harvey (Maxine) Riden of Charles City; a sister-in-law, Margaret Riden of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a great granddaughter; and a sister, Leola Jacobs; and a brother, Chester Pals.
