Ila Berniece Ott was born January 1, 1926, near Greene, the 9th child of a family of 14, born to Roy and Easter (Hill) Ott. As a child she attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Marble Rock and it was at that church at about 12 years of age that she accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour.

Ila was reared in a Christian home where she was not only sent to Sunday School and church but was taken very faithfully by her parents who loved the Lord and who taught and practiced very high Christian principles and morals.

She graduated from Greene High School in 1944 and in 1947 went to Chicago to attend Moody Bible Institute. She graduated from Moody in 1950 and after graduating worked at a couple of jobs before returning to Moody to work as a secretary. She worked at Moody for 27 years, having spent the last ten years as secretary to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

She retired in April, 1992, moving to Mason City in 2000. Ila was a member of Edgewater Baptist Church in Chicago since 1962 and through the years taught Sunday School and served on various committees. She learned to love her church family, as well as the various pastors and the music ministry of the church. Ila’s favorite hobby was needle work, which was tastefully displayed throughout her home. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and loved good music.

Living family members include six brothers, Malcolm (Kathryn), James (Louise), and Larry (Sharon) of Rockford, Richard (Mary) of Greene, Harold (Til) of Marble Rock, Donald (Delores) of Des Moines, and one sister, Gladys (Clarence) Bennett of Atlanta, GA, one brother-in-law Dean Abbott, Ridgeway, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Eunice Ott, Mary Taylor, Grace Howe, Evelyn Anderson and Lois Abbott; and an infant brother, Homer Ott.
