ROCKWELL - Arlene Kafer, 87, of Sheffield, formerly of Rockwell, died Wednesday (Dec. 3, 2008) at the Sheffield Care Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Ronald Bolinger presiding. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Arlene Berniece Kafer was born May 13, 1921, at Ventura, Iowa, a daughter of Charles Raymond and Mary (Weitzel) Kennedy. She attended Mason City Schools.

On June 18, 1938, Arlene was united in marriage with Gerald W. Kafer at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City. They made their home in Rockwell where they ran a western Tack shop and the Western Boot Store. Primarily, Arlene was a devoted mother and farm wife.

She loved animals and would care for sick livestock for several people. For several years Arlene traveled with Gerald while he did construction all over the country.

In 1987, Arlene and Gerald moved to Mason City, she moved into the Sheffield Care Center in 2001. Arlene was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Her family includes: son: Bill (Diane) Kafer, Manly; daughter: Carolyn (Kirby) Koch, Iowa Falls; grandchildren: Chris (Virginia) Kafer, Maple Grove, Minn.; Cindy (Daryel) Hamlin, Clear Lake; Vickie Hunemiller, Janesville; Tammy (Duane) Kallenbach, Clear Lake; Michelle (Randy) Green, Liberty Hill, Texas; Teri (Scott) Sands, Bettendorf; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister: Mary (Roger) Whitnable, Bussey, Iowa; Stepmother, Esther Mulhern; sister-in-law: Mary Ann Kennedy, Fertile.

Arlene is preceded in death by her parents; husband: sister: Violet McCloud; brother: Clarence Kennedy; half brother: Bob Kennedy; half sister: Linda Peterson.
