Opal Martin, 71, of Charles City, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City following a short battle with leukemia.

Pastor Gary Hatcher, of the Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery rural Charles City.

Opal Johnson Martin was born March 3, 1937, at Charles City, the daughter of Ralph and Nellie (Thompson) Johnson. She was an excellent cook and baker. She was very proud of, and enjoyed, her large family. Her loves and interests included cooking, baking, playing with grandchildren, fishing, playing piano and helping anyone in need.

Living family members include two sons, William (Barb) Martin and Michael Martin both of Greene; four daughters, Peggy (Allen) Wefel of Cedar Rapids, Linda Martin (Ed Shaw) of Raymond, Karen (Jeff) Reisem of Greene and Sheryl (Jack) Bilotta of Sugar Grove, Ohio; a brother, Jack Johnson; a sister-in-law, Della Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, David Rodamaker and Lloyd Babcock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Nellie Johnson; two daughters, Mary Kay and Kathleen Joy; a son, Patrick Steven; three sisters, Leila Rodamaker, Wilma Reinhardt and Edna Babcock; and two brothers, Vic Johnson and Jesse “Jim” Johnson.
