Dorothy Grant, 84, of Charles City, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Dorothy Ida Jungling Grant was born November 19, 1921, at Shell Rock, the daughter of Harm and Florence (Easton) Jungling. She graduated from the Shell Rock High School. After graduation Dorothy taught country school in Butler County for two years.

On March 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to John Grant at Waterloo. Later they moved to Georgia where John was stationed in the Army at Waycross Army Air Field and Dorothy again taught school for three years at Waycross. When John was discharged they moved to Shell Rock where she and her sister-in-law drove lime truck for Grant Brothers and Swab. In 1958 they moved to Charles City where, over the years, she worked at Gone to Market and assisted with catering.

Dorothy was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church where she had served on the altar guild. She was also the past president of the Shell Rock American Legion Auxiliary. Her interests included cooking and reading. Dorothy will always be remembered as one who had a “green thumb” and for her love of cats.

Living family members include her husband, John Grant of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews including Gary (Mary) Grant of Sedalia, Mo., and Janice Grant and her husband Bob Martin of Oregon, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents.

Out of their gratitude for the care they received the family suggests that memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa Charles City Site, 1003 Gilbert Street, Charles City, Iowa.
