James McDermott, 89, of Charles City, died on Friday, April 22, 2005, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

James Henry McDermott was born March 22, 1916, at Joel, Wisconsin, the son of James and Minnie (Aman) McDermott. He was raised in Algona and Floyd and graduated from Floyd High School.

He was united in marriage to Lois M. Rademacher October 13, 1943, at Lampasse, Texas. The couple lived in Texas and Virginia. James served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his discharge the couple made their home in the Charles City area. Dale worked at White Farm for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed gardening, Thrasher Festivals, and travel, and especially spending time at the library and YMCA. Many will remember him for his frequent bicycle trips around Charles City. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

James is survived by his wife, Lois, Charles City; and their children, Steve McDermott, Chester, Virginia, Barbara (Robert) McMurchy, Floyd, Ronald (Sue) McDermott, Mount Vernon, Rita (Jim) Sanner, Charles City, Mark (Mary) McDermott, Swisher, and David (DeAnna) McDermott, Council Bluffs; 11 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rosemary; one granddaughter, Megan; three brothers and one sister.

CHARLES CITY — James McDermott, 89, of Charles City, died on Friday (April 22, 2005) at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

A funeral Mass for James will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City. The Rev. Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. today where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday at the church an hour before the Mass.
