Larry H. Kraninger was born March 16, 1950, in Charles City, the son of Roy and Ila (Voelschow) Kraninger. He was raised and educated in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School and Hamilton Business College.

He was united in marriage to Doris Leininger on October 24, 1971. The couple later divorced.

Larry was employed by White Farm and worked in Supervisory positions for several companies and also did farm work. He was a self-employed interior painter prior to his illness.

On July 13, 2003 he was united in marriage to Carla M. Gilliland in Melcher, Iowa. The couple made their home in Osage. Larry was a member of the Iowa State Coonhunters Association. He enjoyed attending the Hillbilly Gun and Dog Auction in Devonia, collecting coins and football cards. He loved playing games on Pogo and watching the Minnesota Vikings. He held a passion for coonhunting and showing his coondogs in area and state competitions. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandkids of which he was extremely proud.

Living relatives include his wife Carla of Osage; mother Ila Elliott, Charles City; daughter, Jennifer (Rick) Owens, Newton; son, Jeremy Kraninger, Des Moines; stepson, Charles Olson, Golden Valley, Arizona; stepdaughter Kathryn Kraninger, New Haven; grandson Jordon; granddaughter Shielow; step-granddaughter Cassie; brothers, Ron (Betty) of Nora Springs, Stan of Wilmont, South Dakota, Garry (Connie) of Independence; and sister Peg of San Antonio, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Roy; Uncle Joe; and Aunts Dorothy and Virginia.
