Janice “Jan” Martin, 68, of Charles City, died Sunday, September 2, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Janice Marie Mishak Martin was born March 31, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Evelyn (Klein) Mishak. She graduated in 1957 from Saint Mary’s High School in Waterloo and from Mercy Hospital School of Radiologic Technology in 1960.

On August 13, 1960, Jan was united in marriage to Gene Martin at Saint John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. They moved to Charles City in August of 1961. Jan worked for many years at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital as a Radiologic Technologist and then managed the Nashua Town and Country Club for a year. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Radiologic Technologists, and the YMCA. Both Jan and Gene volunteered for several years at the Countryside Food Coop in Hackensack, MN.

She enjoyed cross-stitching, working crossword puzzles, and putting puzzles together. Jan loved the outdoors where she fished, golfed, gardened, was a bird watcher and enjoyed going “up north” to the lake. She will also be remembered as an avid swimmer and an Iowa Hawkeye Fan. Jan and Gene wintered for several years in Arizona and always looked forward to their time together. Above all else, they both always enjoyed the times they could spend sharing their lives with their family.

Living family members include her husband, Gene Martin of Charles City; two daughters, Tracy (Scott) McGregor of Nashua and Terry (Mark) Shaffer of Marshalltown; two grandsons, Brendan and Chet McGregor; and two sisters, Ruth Knapp of Waterloo and Lois (Kenneth) Gerard of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Russell Mishak; two brothers-in-law, Tom Craig and Don Knapp; and a sister-in-law, Donna Mishak.
