Esther R. Moore, 93, of Charles City died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Pastor Mike McAbee of the New Life Community Church and Pastor Dennis Bachman of the First Wesleyan Church will officiate at the funeral service. Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at New Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Esther Ruth Rakowsky Moore was born August 24, 1914 at Madison, Nebr. the daughter of Henry and Louise “Lizzie” (Vonbergen) Rakowsky. She attended the Los Angeles City College shortly after graduating from high school in Madison, Nebr.

On December 22, 1942 she was united in marriage to Lyle Moore in Nebraska. Esther and Lyle owned and operated a bakery in Des Moines for five years.

They later moved to Charles City where they owned and operated the Dutch Oven Bakery on Main Street for 18 years. She was a member of the First Wesleyan Church in Charles City. Her interests included golfing and bowling with her husband and spending time with her family. Esther will be remembered for being very active in raising her four grandchildren in the 1960’s and early 1970’s.

Living family members include one daughter, Judie Pieper of Valencia, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jodie Hancock, Diana (Philip) Smith, Michael (Andrea) Pieper, and Joseph (Shannon) Pieper; 10 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Lucille Axt; and a brother, Edwin Rakowsky.
