Ralph Crandall, 84, of Charles City, died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Ralph Crandall will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Gale Richards, of the Riceville First Congregational Church, will officiate.

Inurnment will be at a later date in Sunnyside Memory Gardens. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Ralph Leo Crandall was born September 4, 1922, near Orchard, the son of William and Emma Nina (May) Crandall. He graduated from Colwell High School in 1939. Ralph served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946.

On July 4, 1944, he was united in marriage to Wilma Bigelow at Ionia. Ralph worked at Salsbury Laboratories from 1958 to 1985. In 1989 they moved to Charles City. He was a life time member of the V.F.W. His interests included fishing, bowling and following the Charles City Comet softball and baseball teams in their regular games as well at to the state tournaments.

Ralphs greatest joy, however, was the time he could spend with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Living family members include his loving wife of 62 years, Wilma of Charles City; four children, Dave (Jeanne) Crandall of Ionia, Cheryl (John) Lair of Charles City, Leanne (David) Leeper of Cedar Rapids and Terri and special friend Bob Snyder of Charles City; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four sisters, Julia Neal of Charles City, Jerri Merle Marquez of Beaumont, Tex., Marilou (Annibal) Dautant of Venezuela and Phyllis (Richard) Gabel of Rockford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger Crandall on September 30, 1973; and eight brothers, Edward, Jack, Theodore, Robert, Charles, James, Donald and Larry Crandall.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 1003 Gilbert Street, Charles City, Iowa or the American Cancer Society, 130 Fourth Street SW, Mason City, IA 50401.
