Alice Lucille Crooks was born September 15, 1917, in Deerfield Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Emery) Marvin. She received her education in the Orchard area.

She met and married Ivan Merle Crooks on February 3, 1938, at West Union. To this union three daughters were born. Leatha, Patricia, and Gloria. Ivan and Alice lived and farm all of their lives in and around the Nashua, Ionia, and Bassett areas. As Ivans health failed they moved to Charles City. Alice worked a short time at a Charles City cabinet factory before taking a job as a housekeeper at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital where she worked for 16 years.

She retired in 1983 to stay home and care for her husband. Ivan passed away in July of 1985, one day after his 75th birthday. In 1986 she started working as a Foster Grandparent, a job which she dearly loved. Over the next years she worked at all three of the Charles City elementary schools. She worked until this past December when her illness forced her to retire. She hated to miss work because her kids counted on her to be there to help them. Alices greatest joy was her family. She loved going to car races to watch her grandson race. She enjoyed word searches, cooking and gardening. She especially enjoyed fishing with Grandpa.

Living relatives include her three daughters, Leatha (Larry) Springer, Nashua, Patricia (Joseph) Hibben, Farmington, Minnesota, and Gloria (Lanny) Mincks, Charles City; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; three sisters; and three brothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister; two brothers; and one step grandchild.

The Hauser Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, www.hauserfh.com , in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.
