Lois Rachel Clapp Cross was born March 2, 1924, at Floyd, the daughter of Worth and Vera (Chesnut) Clapp. She graduated from the Floyd High School.

On February 28, 1942, she was united in marriage to William Cross. During her working career she was employed at the Oliver Corporation in Charles City, a salesperson at Woolworths in Columbus, GA, was a telephone operator at Slater, and an Avon representative and salesperson while in California.

Lois was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary at Slater and served as the secretary for bowling leagues in Petaluma, CA and Nora Springs. Her interests included painting, embroidery and, crocheting. Lois enjoyed spending time with her family and always looked forward to those times.

Living family members include four sons, Danny (Colleen) Cross of Charles City, Jerry (Dawn) Cross of Shasta Lake, CA, Craig Cross of Cotati, CA, and Robert (Mae) Cross of Charles City; twelve grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a brother, Neil (Mary Margaret) Clapp of Cedar Falls; and three sisters, Neva Baehne of Charles City, Georgia Luster of Moline, IL, and Florene (LaVerne) Johnson of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on January 26, 2003; a son, Paul Cross; a grandson, John Cross; and a brother, Dale Clapp.
