Charles City, IowaRobert John Nehls was born July 30, 1926, at Charles City, the son of Irving and Bertha (Wendt) Nehls. He graduated from the Charles City High School and attended junior college at San Diego, CA. On October 21, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mavis Alderman.
Robert had been employed with Ryan Aircraft in San Diego, CA and at the Oliver/White Farm Corporation. He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. At the time of the Charles City tornado Robert was serving on the city council. He enjoyed various aspects of wildlife including fishing. Robert will be remembered as a patient man who was also a great caregiver for several family members.
Living family members include a son, Donavan Nehls of Texarkana, AR; four grandchildren, Valda, Donavan, Jr., Crystal and Nathan; a brother, George (Annette) Nehls of Morra Bay, CA; and three sisters, Carol (James) Downing of Charles City, Jean Moore of Three Rivers, CA and Frances (Richard) Scoles of Nashua.

CHARLES CITY - Robert Nehls, 79, of Charles City, died Thursday (Feb. 9, 2006) at his residence.
Funeral services for Robert Nehls will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main, in Charles City. The Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, pastor of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
