Lyle Raymond Cook, age 69, of 110 Second St. S.W., Rockford, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Monday, November 24, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 28, at Rockford United Methodist Church, 21 Third St. N.W., Rockford, with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. An inurnment will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at the church.

Lyle was born on October 3, 1939, in Rockford, Floyd County, Iowa, the son of John and Esther (Fletcher) Cook. He attended Rockford Schools and married Ruth (Ballhagen) on December 13, 1958, at Rudd Methodist Church.

Lyle worked at the Rockford Brick and Tile, Trettin Hatchery, Moscher Electric and then he joined the Plumbers Union, where he worked for various contractors. He was also a business advocate for the Plumber and Steamfitters Union Local 405, Mason City.

In his spare time he liked to go fishing, hunting, especially bow hunting, camping, gardening, working on jigsaw puzzles, playing the guitar, cruising, and visiting with friends.

He was a very family oriented man who loved his grandchildren. Lyle was also a community activist for Rockford.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Rockford; children, Scott Lyle (Mai) Cook of Rockford, Roxanne (Richard) Shook of Rockford, Tony (Amy) Cook of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Jon R. (Tracy) Cook of Sheffield; his grandchildren, Kelsey (Sam) Bayim of Rockford, Quinnton Cook of Eden Prairie, Minn., Cortni Cook and Caylee Cook of Sheffield; his stepgrandson, Mathew Ball of Oshkosh, Wis.; stepgrandson, Cale Shook Mason City; and stepgrandson, Daniel Shook of Mason City; and his great-grandchild, Charles Bayim of Rockford; his brothers, Merrill Cook of Pine Center, Minn., and Robert (Becky) Cook of Marion; and his sister, Donna (Frank) Markle of Grimes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, and his mother and father-in-law.
