LeRoy “Dean” Bertelsen, 70, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Pastor Kent Sovine will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

LeRoy Dean Bertelsen was born February 9, 1937, at Des Moines, the son of Gunnar and Florence “Marquerite” (Davis) Bertelsen. He graduated in 1955 from Des Moines Tech High School. Dean entered Iowa State University for a brief time and then entered the Air Force for pilot training. He then joined the Air National Guard working in Electronics for 13 and ½ years. Dean completed his military career after 21 years and 3 months.

On May 29, 1960, Dean was united in marriage to Doris Ferch at the Saint John Lutheran Church in Charles City. In 1968 Dean and his family moved from Des Moines to Floyd and then to Charles City in 1975. Dean held several jobs through his career; he worked as Electrical Foreman at Hydrotile in Nashua, Mills Inc., Floyd County Memorial Hospital and ended his career at Dome Pipe Line in 1992. He loved doing yard work, keeping up his home and was handy at fixing most everything. Dean loved pets and also his 57 T Bird that was his pride and joy.

He enjoyed going to his grandson’s, football and basketball games. Michael was his greatest joy and they spent a lot of time together. Dean will be missed very much by his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his love and concern for other people.

Living family member include his wife, Doris Bertelsen of Charles City; three daughters, Lori (Tim) Clark, Teresa Bertelsen, Kathy (Gene) Pettit all of Charles City; one grandson, Michael Clark and a step-granddaughter, Ashley Pettit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, John Hayden; and a brother, John Bertelsen.
