Leone Estelle Ames Keating was born October 19, 1910, at Charles City, the daughter of Guy and Amy (Beatty) Ames. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1928.

On May 5, 1934, she was united in marriage to Stanley Keating at Pocohontas. Leone was employed for many years as a telephone operator in the Traffic Department of Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1970. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Church Women United, Charles City Women’s Club and Telephone Pioneers of America.

Living family members include a daughter, Kay (Jerry) Swenson of Ames; three sons, Col. James Keating (Ret.) of Indian Wells, CA, Richard (Karen) Keating of Banning, CA, and David (Pamela) Keating of South Elgin, IL; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Nona Meyer; and two brothers, Wayne Ames and Guy Ames, Jr.
