Rites Sept. 4, 1973, for Mrs. Alice Keith

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Alice (Bird) Keith on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 4, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock, with Rev. Bill Griffee, Nashua, officiating.

Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Don Krambeer & Mrs. Ed Enabnit. Mrs Galen Martzhan provided organ music. Casket bearers, who had been requested by Mrs. Keith were Ross, Bob, Arlin, Duane & Lyle Enabnit & Pete Vorhes. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.

Alice Frances Keith was born September 12, 1883, to James and Alice Kate Hillman on a farm north of Marble Rock, & passed away August 31, 1973, at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City., only 13 days before her 90th birthday, due to complications of a hip fracture.

“Bird," the name by which she was always known, was given to her as a nickname by her father when she was a little girl. She attended a country school in the area of her home & the Christian Church in Marble Rock. For many years she worked as a seamstress before her marriage to Clifford Keith on April 22, 1914, who preceded her in death May 25, 1948. Bird & Cliff were the parents of one daughter, Dorothy, now Mrs. Charles Gates of Nashua.

Bird remained very alert for her almost 90 years, & just an hour before her passing had reminisced with her daughter about the many happy times in the past, & as always, inquired about her other family members & friends.

In addition to her daughter & husband, M&M Charles Gates, she is survived by one granddaughter, Andrea Gates, Nashua; 2 grandsons & their wives, Ronald & Helen Gates, Story City, & Lynn & Stella Gates, Colorado Springs , Colo & several nieces & nephews.

Preceding her in death, besides her husband, were her parents & three brothers.
