Ernest Alfred Vetter was born November 9, 1931, at Carrville, the son of Alfred and Helen (Gutzmer) Vetter. He graduated from the Nashua High School in 1949. Ernest served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957. During his time of service he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

On February 2, 1958, he was united in marriage to Maxine Vietor at Charles City. Ernest farmed, worked at Oliver White Farm Equipment Company and also operated Vetter Trucking.

He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans of Mason City and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Nashua. Ernest’s favorite pastimes included hunting, watching television, reading, playing cards, listening to country music, driving the tractor and driving around the country looking at farms. His family was always very important to him and he looked forward to spending time with them.

Living family members include his wife, Maxine Vetter of Charles City; a daughter, Barb (John) Dotson of Charles City; and two sons, Jerry (Georgena) Vetter of Charles City, and Sgt. Major William (Sharon) Vetter of Jacksonville, NC; three grandchildren, James Dotson, Matthew Vetter and Garrett Vetter; three sisters, Edna (Art) Kohls of Greene, Marian (Jim) Large of Tulsa, OK, and Helen Stonecypher of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Ben Hess; three brothers-in-law; and a nephew.
