MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Obert Allen Stromley, of 205 River St. North, died Tuesday (Nov. 28, 2006) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 2, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 428 W. Walnut in Manly, Iowa, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt and Pastor Patricia Shaw officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Bride Colonial Chapel 110 E. Spring St. in Manly, Worth County, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marble Rock.
Obert Allen Stromley was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Mona, the son of Christian and Nelina (Johnson) Stromley. Obert attended Somber Lutheran School, Mona, and Lyle Community School. He farmed with his father until moving to Minneapolis, Minn., where he attended Dunwoody Institute for body and fender work.
Obert was united in marriage to DeAlda Burdella Anderson on July 26, 1943, at the Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis; to this union five children were born. In 1946, the family moved from the Twin Cities to Manly, where he owned and operated the Manly Motor Co., which expanded to selling boats and motors.
After retirement in 1978, Obert enjoyed the craft of woodworking. He would travel around to craft shows selling his assorted woodworking crafts. Obert was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, where he served as president on the church council, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and a past member of Manly City Council.
He loved dancing, fishing, camping, traveling south for the winter and north for the summer to their lake home on Lake Jefferson in Minnesota. Obert's greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.
Obert is survived by his children, Richard (Pat) Stromley of Mason City, Deanna Stromley of Eden Prairie, Minn., Duane (Daphne) Stromley of Manly, John Stromley of Burlington, and Janice (Gary) Marken of Manly; grandchildren Randall (Kris) Stromley of Des Moines, Robert Stromley and fiancee, Kristi Tabbert, of Mason City, Dawn (Scott) Bentten of Lisbon, N.D., Danita (Travis) Ostrom of Grand Forks, N.D., Andrew (Amie) Marken of Manly, Sara Marken of Manly, and her special friend, Travis Dunbar, of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Samuel and Claire Stromley, Hunter and Isac Bentten; brothers and sisters, Reuben (Helen) Stromley, Esther Nelson, Rodney (Wilma) Stromley, Wayne (Linda) Stromley, Mike Stromley, Marg (Dean) Saathoff, Ardith, Barbara, and Rachael; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Stromley, Velma (Don) Roberts, Joy (LaVern) Warner, Arlene (Leo) Martie, Norma Streich, Charlotte Cobeen and (Bob Thoen); brother-in-law, Millard (Cynthia) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, DeAlda Stromley; siblings, Chester, Robert, Kenneth, and George Stromley; sisters, Ruby Mae Stromley and Sadie Thompson.
