Norma Roethler, 72, a resident of 2142 Walnut Avenue, Charles City, Iowa, died Saturday, September 18, 2004, at her home.

A funeral Mass for Norma Roethler will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.

Norma Helen (Hillsman) Roethler was born January 17, 1932, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Aloysius and Irene (Bonfig) Hillsman. She received her education at St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Alta Vista. On January 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Clair Roethler at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. They farmed East of Charles City for many years.

Norma was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Saint Catherine’s Circle. She enjoyed her house plants and also looked forward to assisting with activities at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, working at the Knights of Columbus fish fries and socializing and helping others in whatever way she could. Norma’s family was very important to her and she always looked forward to spending time with them especially with the grandchildren.

Living family members include her husband, Clair Roethler of Charles City; and son, Chris (Faith) Roethler of Story City; two grandchildren, Cassondra and Levi Roethler; a brother, Ronald (Judy) Hillsman of Waterloo; and a sister, Janice (Dale) Ableitner of Pine Island, MN.
Her parents preceded her in death.
