CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Joanne E. Appel, 66, of Charles City died Friday (June 17, 2005) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.
A funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City. The Rev. Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City, where the rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil Scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour before the Mass Tuesday at the church .

Charles City, IAJoanne E. Appel, 66, of Charles City, died on Friday, June 17, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.
A funeral Mass for Joanne Appel will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City. The Rev. Carl Ries, Pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m... Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church an hour before the Mass.
Joanne Elizabeth Miller was born July 19, 1938, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Earl and Irene (Reinartz) Miller. She was raised and educated in Austin and graduated from Pacilli High School. She continued her education in Rochester, MN, at the St. Mary’s Hospital where she received her nursing license as an LPN. She worked for St. Mary’s hospital for a brief time following her training. On July 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to Rodney A. Appel in Austin. The couple then moved to Charles City where they raised their family Rodney worked for White Farms and farmed. Joanne was employed with Salsbury Baptist Home and the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home before her health disability forced her retirement.
Joanne was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed working on the farm, reading and watching her “Soaps” and “The Price Is Right” on TV. She also loved traveling to Tama or the riverboat in Marquette to enjoy gambling on the slots. Spending time with her family was very important to her.
Living relatives include her husband, Rodney, Charles City; her mother, Irene Miller, Austin, MN; seven children, Steve and Darla Appel, Farmington, MN, Sue and Ron Dunn, Alta Vista, Scott Appel and Special friend, Vicky Theilen, Nora Springs, Stacey and Julie Appel, McDonough, GA, Sandy and Dan Clark, Ionia, Stewart Appel and fiance Melissa Gorshe, Denver, and Sara and Steve Robel, Charles City; 13 grandchildren; and one brother, Richard and Judy Miller, Humboldt.
She was preceded in death by her father, and one brother, Donald Miller.
