Amos "Ted" Anderson, 82, of Charles City, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Amos Theodore Anderson was born June 26, 1925 at Ames, Iowa the son of Peter and Electa Jane (Hughes) Anderson. He received his education from Iowa State Teachers College and Iowa State University. Ted was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during WWII. On November 2, 1946 he was united in marriage to Barbara Gravatt in Des Moines. He was the Elementary Principal at the Washington Grade School in Charles City for 40 years.

After his retirement in 1987 he was employed part-time by the University of Northern Iowa as the field supervisor for student teachers. Ted was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, the V.F.W., past president of the Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and past member of the Board of Trustees at Upper Iowa University. He was listed in Outstanding Personalities of the West and Midwest and was a Charles City Man of the Year.

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Anderson of Charles City; four children, Doug (Cathy) Anderson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dave (Karen) Anderson of Taichung, Taiwan, Dr. Marcia Anderson and life companion Dr. Victoria Bacon of Norton, Mass. and Brad (Lori) Anderson of Monmouth, Ore.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Wilford of Vero Beach, Fla.; a brother, Benny (Nadine) Anderson of Healdsburg, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jacob Anderson; and a sister, Ida Toohey.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 601 Milwaukee Avenue Charles City, IA 50616.
