Mabel E. Hansen, age 98, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Saturday, September 13, 2008, at the Hospice of North Iowa Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Mabel will be held on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastors Dennis Niezwaag and David Werges will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Mabel Edna Howe Jung Hansen was born Dec. 1, 1909, on a farm near Niles Corner the daughter of Charles and Edith (Schmidt) Howe. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1928.

In 1929 she married Walter J. Jung. To this union two children, Mavis and Robert, were born. They divorced in 1970. In 1971, she was united in marriage to Donovan Hansen. She was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mabel enjoyed crocheting and visiting with her family.

Living family members include a daughter, Mavis Sullivan of Lancaster, Virginia; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; seven, great great grandchildren; a sister, Esther Brunner of Charles City; a sister-in-law, Bernadine Howe of Rockford; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Jung of Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son; and a son-in-law, Miles Sullivan.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
