Death of Mrs. Urban Davis
Universal surprise and the deepest sorrow was caused throughout Greene and vicinity Sunday afternoon by the announcement that Mrs. Urban Davis had passed away at their home in this city. After sickness of scarcely two weeks duration had not been considered especially serious until the last few days when she began to grow worse and Sunday morning at 11;25 she passed quietly away, the immediate cause of her death being nephritis.
Mrs. Davis was perfectly conscious of her surroundings up to five minutes before she died and realized that her time had come to meet her Lord she bravely accepted his will with the same courageous bearing that had manifested itself through her life.
Emma Brunner was born January 21, 1881 in Floyd county, Iowa. Duly instructed in the Christian religion, she was confirmed at the age of eighteen by Rev. Baumach of the Lutheran church of Greene. Six years ago last Thanksgiving day she was married to Mr. Urban Davis of this city, to which happy union were born two children, Enid aged four and Earl a baby of eleven months, who are left at a time when they most needed the mother’s tender and affection care. Still the Lord willed other wise and we as true children of God must willingly though tearfully submit to His holy will.
The going out of this young life has cast a gloom over the home, the neighborhood and the vicinity in which she lived so long. Her bright and general presence and cordial, kindly disposition has won for her the tenderest affections of her friends and tho the mortal body is laid to rest, the remembrances of her friendship will remain as a monument to her memory.
Besides the sorrowing husband and children the deceased leaves to mourn her untimely death an aged mother, six sisters, Mrs. Charles Mertield, Mrs. Walter Macamer, Mrs. Walter Vorhes and Miss Kate Brunner and three brothers, Jake, Michael, and George Brunner all of this vicinity. Our heartfelt sympathies are extended to the grief stricken husband and the family in this sad hour of their bereavement.
The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Lutheran church by Rev. W.J. Knappe. The floral offering were many and very beautiful, one piece in particular a large harp given by the many friends in Greene.
