Funeral services for Alvira Chambers of 218 Iowa St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Brethren in Greene, with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock, and will continue one hour before the service at the church Monday.

Alvira Evelyn Shook was born June 19, 1921, in Greene, a daughter of Frank and Ruby (Mauch) Shook, and died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Mason City. She received her education in the rural Scott Township country school and graduated from the Marble Rock High School in 1938.

On April 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Rob Roy Chambers in Charles City. They made their home in Marble Rock and to this union were born two children.

Following her divorce in 1955, she operated Al's Cafe in Marble Rock until 1961. She later was employed by Jones and Presnell Photography Co. of Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was photographer and district manager for the company until her retirement in 1975. She later worked for the Floyd County Historical Museum in Charles City as a clerical worker until 1985.

Alvira had many interests, which included painting, operating her ham radio and cooking. She enjoyed watching Emeril and his cooking show on television. She was a life-long member of the Church of the Brethren and a member of the North Iowa Amateur Radio Club.

Those thankful for having shared her life are her children, Sandra and her husband, Ted Winters, of Marble Rock, and Steven "Butch" and his wife, Sandy Chambers, of Zimmerman, Minn.; six grandchildren, Robert and Karen Winters of Charles City, Tammy Winters of Des Moines, Billy and Rhonda Winters of Rockwell, Stacy and David Klebs of St Francis, Minn., Scott and Lisa Chambers of Ramsey, Minn., and Shaun and Bridget Chambers of Elk River, Minn.; six great-grandchildren, Cody, Caleb, Paige, Michael, Katelyn and Taylir; one brother, Donald Shpok of Winchester, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Florence Shook of Marble Rock. She will also be missed by her trusty companion, Winston, her dog.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Herbert, Kenneth, Harlan and her twin brother in infancy.
