Hildred "Hilly" (Mrs. John) Swaroff, 88, of 200 Third Ave., died Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Monsignor Stanley Hayck, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, where St. Anthony's Circle will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil scriptural wake service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour before the Mass Monday at the church.

Hildred Elbert Swaroff was born July 21, 1913, in Kossuth County, the daughter of Gregory and Dorothea (Gerber) Elbert. She graduated from Presentation Academy at Whittemore, and Hamilton Business College.

On Aug. 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to John A. Swaroff in Mason City. "Hilly" and John were proprietors of Swaroff's Service Inc., where she worked as bookkeeper for 28 years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rosary Society, St. Anthony's Circle, Heritage Club and Senior Citizens. "Hilly" thoroughly enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling, quilting, cooking and spending time with her family.

Living family members include her husband, John, of Charles City; three daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Jan Krajewski of Arvada, Colo., Dorothy and Dennis Bartz, and Mary and Allen Williams, both of Charles City; two sons, Phil Swaroff and his wife, Julie, of Lincoln, Neb., and John "Jay" Swaroff of Charles City; grandchildren, Karen, Mark and Stefan Krajewski, all of Arvada, Colo., Dee Johnson of Charles City, Brad and Brenda Bartz of Vinton, Travis and Lisa Bartz of Charles City, Alicia Bartz of West Des Moines, John Martin Swaroff of Lincoln, Neb., Chris and Sarah Williams of Clinton Township, Mich., Angie Williams of Dubuque, and Mike Williams of Charles City; four great-grandchildren, Alison and Lucas Johnson of Charles City and Tyler and Justin Bartz of Vinton; a sister, Lenore "Totsy" Schlader and husband, Jerome, of Rockford; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Elbert of Fairbault, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the I.C. Educational Development Fund or I.C. Vision 2000.

Arrangements are by Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, Iowa.
