CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Roger Lee Field, 65, a resident of 1907 Owen Street, Charles City, died Thursday, (Jan. 24, 2002) at his home after a short battle with cancer.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Solomon Odoom, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Roger Lee Field was born March 15, 1936, in Floyd, the son of Harry "Doc" and Eunice (Stewart) Field. He graduated from Rudd High School. Following graduation he married Helen Christiansen and to this union four children were born. In 1978, he married Loretta Gourley. He farmed and worked at White Farm Corporation for many years. On July 16, 1993, Roger was united in marriage to Nancy (Wolske) Gruben in Charles City. Following their marriage they spent precious years together fishing, playing cards and enjoying laughter at the many stories Roger enjoyed telling his many friends and family. He could always be seen with a cheerful smile. Roger was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy Reserve from July 2, 1954, until his honorable discharge on July 1, 1962.

Living family members include his mother, Eunice Field, of Charles City; wife, Nancy; four children and their spouses, Dr. Rebecca Tate of North Carolina, Loren and Lenore Field of Hinton, Robin and Steven Fox of Lakeville, Minn. and Ward and Shannon Field of Pine Island, Minn.; three stepchildren of Nancy's, Lynn Morse, Mark Gruben and Michael Gruben; five stepchildren of Loretta Gourley's, Kirk Gourley, Rick Gourley, Mick Gourley, Dave Gourley and Jodi Greve; six grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Eddie Field of Floyd, Kenneth Field and wife, Kathy, of Clear Lake; three sisters, Pat Swedberg and husband, Deryl, of Lancaster, Mo., Judy Schilling and husband, Robert, of Cedar Falls and Ginger Schipman of Nora Springs; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1984, his wife, Loretta Gourley, in 1987 and brother-in-law, Ron Schipman.
