Dorothy Merfeld, 83, a former resident of 502 West Traer, died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) at the Leibe Care Center in Greene.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. Monsignor Walter Brunkan will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Friends may call at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 4 to 8 p.m. today, where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. followed by the reciting of the Rosary.

Dorothy Marie Parker Merfeld was born Feb. 11, 1918, near Marble Rock, the daughter of Arthur and Daisy Alice (Brown) Parker. She graduated from the Marble Rock High School in 1936.

On Feb. 13, 1939, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harry Merfeld at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. Following their marriage they farmed southwest of Marble Rock near Dougherty until 1953, when they moved to LeRoy, Minn. They moved to Greene in 1957. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Dorothy enjoyed doing embroidery work, refinishing furniture, jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, cooking and baking.

Living family members include four daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Marlyn "Jack" Wunsch, Rose and Richard Klunder, Bonnie and Jim Knapp, and Annette and Ron Ascher, all of Greene; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Gail and Bob Kammeyer, of Greene, and Wilma "Billie" and Leroy Kingery, of Marble Rock; and two brothers, Kenneth "Mike" and his wife, Ranee Parker, and Russell "Barney" Parker, both of Marble Rock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1971; two brothers, Roy "JoJo" Parker and Edgar Parker; and a sister, Helen Parker, in infancy.
