ROCKFORD - Bernard L. Sharp, 72, of 20474 170th St., Rockford, died Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Bernard was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Rockford, the son of Ray and Grace (Burgess) Sharp. He attended schools in Mason City.

Bernard married Shirley Friend June 9, 1950, in Mason City. They moved to Rockwell in 1973.

After working for Armour & Co., Bernard managed Lee's Bowling Lanes for more than 19 years. He then worked at Mason City Builders Supply and then the Rose Bowl, where he retired in 1994.

Bernard was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Rockwell, and two daughters, Kathleen Sharp, of Rockwell, and Debra Retleff, of Mason City; a son, Michael Sharp and his wife, Linda, of Ankeny; granddaughter, Mallory, of Ankeny; a brother, Leon Sharp and his wife, Jan, of Mason City; and a sister, Ruth Johnson, of Mason City.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, David, Harold and Clyde; and sisters, Lila McCourt, Arlene Thovson and Doris Peterson.
