Mrs. K. Harwood

The funeral of Mrs. K. Harwood, was held from the home residence this morning at 10 o'clock and was largely attended by the old residents and family friends of deceased. Rev. Wilson Denney conducted the services and spoke words both tender and true concerning the beautiful and useful life of the dear mother who leaves behind a blessed memory.

Mrs. Harwood was taken sick Tuesday evening, lapsing into unconciousness. From this she rallied and passed quite a comfortable night, about 6 o'clock next morning, she grew perceptibly worse and at a little before 10 o'clock, Wednesday, Nov. 28, 1900, she passed peacefully from this to a higher life, aged 75 years and 3 months lacking 2 days.

Mrs. Keziah Harwood, whose maiden name was Dryer, was born in Seneca county, N. Y., a daughter of Chester and Susan Dryer.

On August 31, 1843, she was united in marriage to Sanford Harwood at Lowell, La Salle county, Illinois. Of this union eight children were born, five of whom are living, one daughter, Mrs. Sue M. Potts, wife of J. M. Potts of this place, four sons, James C., postmaster at Clarion, Wright county, Iowa, Burret E., now in Paris, France; Will S., of St Anthony's Park, Minn, and Frank E., a resident of Memphis, Tennessee. Burret and Frank were unable to be at the funeral.

Mrs. Harwood has lived in Charles City since 1854, coming here with her husband when the country was little more than a wilderness and enduring uncomplainingly the hardships of a new country such as the most venturesome pioneers today know little of.

She was in every relation of life a true woman. As wife, mother, friend and neighbor, none knew her but to love her. Her casket was smothered in beautiful flowers, the gifts of those who loved her and she sleeps peacefully with them about her.
