C.T. Rex outraged as daughter assaulted 1908
The Marble Rock Outrage
An outrage was perpetrated at Marble Rock last week that shocked the entire community. An outrage which for dastardly crime distanced anything ever before happening in Floyd County. The criminal is Dr. J.W. McCray an old practioner of Floyd county and a man of about fifty-five years of age. It seems that Dr. McCray, during his wife’s absence had engaged the fifteen year old daughter of C.T. Rex to assist him in light office hours. Mr. Rex having need of a slight medical attendance went to the doctor’s office and finding no one in the reception room and hearing voices in the adjoining the old gray haired villain about to commit a criminal assault upon his daughter.
Rage lent strength to Mr. Rex and with a bound he struck McCray such a blow with his fist that it broke two bones in his hand and then alternately striking and kicking the aged brute until he was exhausted, he rescued his daughter and went to the office of Dr. O’Keefe to have his hand tended to. With the parting words, “Had I the strength I would kill you” Mr. Rex vowed vengeance on the scorpion who but for his timely entrance would have ruined his daughter.
We understand it is Mr. Rex’s intention to send this brute to the penitentiary and proceedings will be started at once to do so. We also understand that the state certificate of McCray’s will be revoked and in all probability the old scalawag will be literally kicked out of town. While we do not advocate the people taking the law into their own hands, yet had some one started a rope bridge and strung the old fool to the nearest telephone post we doubt if a jury could be found to render a decision against the unwritten law.
