Your John Corson (spelled Courson) was also on the 1870 Scott township census and listed in the '1878 History of Fayette County, Iowa' as farmer living in section 16 of Scott township.

John (71) and Ellen (50) had the following children listed with them ..
ALBERT age 25, born Canada
Ida age 14, born Canada
Manda age 17, born Canada
Samuel age 1, born Illinois
Melisa age 11, born Canada
