On Friday, J u n e 30th, 1899, at his
home three miles south of Elgin
occurred the death of Jacob Kohler.
Funeral services were held at the German
Baptist church, Sunday, July
second, conducted by Rev. Hack.
Interment was in the Elgin Cemetery.
The funeral was attended by a large
number of the deceased's friends.
Jacob Kohler was born March 15,
1841, in Canton Bern, Switzerland, and
died at Elgin, Iowa, June 30th, 1899.
He came to America in 1854; was
married t o Elizabeth Buttikofer in
1863; was the father of eleven children
all of whom are living to mourn at his
death.
In a moment of temporary insanity
Mr. Kohler took his own life, the
particulars of which act are not pertinent
and do in no wise destroy the virtue of
a worthy life. Mr. Kohler was an
honest, industrious and intelligent man,
respected by all his acquaintances and
trusted by everyone, he was a good
father and husband; and a true and
steadfast friend; as a citizen, always
law abiding. Through his death his
neighbors have lost an honorable associate
and fellow. Peace be to his ashes.
