OBITUARY
Christian Wenger was born in Tressan county,
Ohio, October 27, 1855 and died May 10, 1908,
after a lingering illness of several years, age 52
years, 6 months and 13 days.
-At the age of four years he came with his parents
to Marion township, Clayton county, where he
grew to manhood on the farm. February 10, 1979
he was united in marriage to Caroline Kohler of
Fayette, Iowa. To this union fifteen children were
born, eleven sons and four daughters all of whom
and the wife survive him, besides two brothers
John and Fred of Elgin and two sisters Mrs. Ben
Kohler of West Union and Mrs. Susan Bigler of
Wadena. For five years Mr. Wenger conducted a
meat marker in Elgin, but given to sweet country
life moved to Illyria township, 1888 where he
has since been engaged in farming.
-Two years ago he made a trip to Bern, Switzerland
for the sake of gaining health but this brought
relief only for a short time.
-Funeral services were held Wednesday at the
Illyria Union Church and were conducted by Rev.
Gallagher of Fayette. A large number of relatives
and friends were present to pay their last sad
tribute to their departed friend. All the members
of the family were present and the six oldest sons
were the pall bearers. The services at the cemetery
were held by the Woodman lodge. The floral
offerings were many and beautiful.
