Andrew Gantenbein, a former mayor of Maynard,
died Tuesday evening at the Lutheran Hospital in
La Crosse,Wi.

Gantenbein farmed for 35 years northeast of
Maynard. He served as Mayor from 1966-1972 and
it was during his administration that the town's
sewer system was installed. He was Mayor at the
time the tornado struck Maynard and Oelwein in
1868, causing extensive damage and deaths in
both communities.

Gantenbein also worked for the Maynard Co-op
for seven years. He was a member of the United
Presbyterian Church of Maynard, the Maynard Senior
citizens, and a 50 year member of the Sunnyside
Masonic Lodge of Maynard. He and his wife,Grace,
celebrated their 58th Anniversary last fall.

Andrew Gantenbein was born on November 27,
1896, in Dubuque County, the son of Johann and
Ursula (Haas) Gantenbein.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM
Friday at the Maynard Presbyterian Church with
burial in the Long Grave cemetery at Maynard.

Surviving are his wife, Grace, Maynard;
Mrs. Edgar (Ruth) Jenkins, Colorado Springs, Co.;
and Mrs. Charles (Verna) Weieneth of Webster City, Ia; seven grandchildren; three great
grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Lydia
Sprague of Maynard.

All Maynard business places will close
from 10 am to noon in honor of Gantenbein,
during the time of the funeral service. A
Masonic Memorial Service was held on Thurs.
at 8 PM at the Wright Funeral Home of Maynard.
